Animal Rescues:

jrb k-9 offers training, boarding and animal shelter decompression services tailored specifically for the needs of shelter dogs

Pit Bull rescue dog

Nala recently completed her JRB K-9 training and is available for adoption from Angel City Pit Bulls

JRB K-9 works with animal rescues dedicated to saving dogs in the Los Angeles city and county shelters, rescuing stray dogs and most other situations.

JRB K-9 Board & Train for dogs with behavioral issues, as well as obedience training, overnight boarding and JRB K-9 new shelter dog decompression service specifically tailored to the needs of animal rescues.

For board & train, once the dog completes their program and has been adopted, the new family receives training and instruction on how to bring the dog into their home. They also receive phone consultations to ensure the dog properly settles into its new home.

2 month minimum* for dogs entering the JRB K-9 board & train program.

  • Once a dog completes their board & train program, current boarding fees will be charged in 24-hour increments for all dogs ready for adoption from animal rescues.

  • Nightly boarding rates are calculated per 24-hour period, with (1) 24-hour period minimum.

  • All dogs must be fully vaccinated, treated for fleas, ticks and parasites.

  • A 1.5hr behavioral assessment is required and is provided for animal rescues at no additional charge. (Normally a $250 fee.)

  • Dogs deemed aggressive during their initial behavioral assessment require behavioral training and special boarding needs which incur additional charges.

“I can't recommend Jesse R. Booker of JRB K-9 enough! He really knows animal behavior.

Beyond that, he's patient, calm and makes sure you truly understand why your animal is doing what they're doing, and how to successfully correct that behavior. Jesse's been a huge help for me even just over the phone with several foster dogs I've had. He's also helped me introduce and integrate a new dog into my home where there's other pets - with no issues! That’s especially great since this new dog was initially highly reactive to any other animal, indoors or out. He recently started helping me train that pup as she's still somewhat reactive and pretty insecure. In just a few sessions, the changes in her behavior have been remarkable.”

*Dogs with lengthy bite histories, and/or pervasive aggression, will need an intensive two months of required training. Due to the individual reasons for the aggression, behavioral training received from JRB K-9 will not necessarily cure the animal of any dangerous propensities. No trainer can make any guarantee when it comes to “training away” dog behaviors and completing that training in a specific timeframe. Given JRB K-9 extensive experience with aggressive dogs, these dogs are rarely relieved of their aggressive behavior in one month. After two months they’ll have markedly improved, however additional months are the most beneficial. The behavioral training provided by JRB K-9’s will help manage and alleviate the stressors that cause the aggression and subsequent biting to occur. As previously mentioned, due to the nature of aggression in dogs, strict adherence to the program at home is necessary for success.

JRB K-9 offers Decompression and Evaluation for dogs pulled from shelters by animal rescues. JRB K-9 is the best place for your rescue dogs to land after leaving the shelter, before going to a foster home. This is a 2-week process and includes evaluation, exercise, and some minimal training. All in the comfort of a new, indoor kennel training facility.

We all know shelter notes are usually wrong, and that's primarily due to the stressful shelter environment. When dogs are released into the care of animal rescues, those dogs often don't get the appropriate decompression that is needed. Nor are they properly evaluated to fit the right home.

Animal rescues do the best they can and with limited resources. Far too often, rescues cross their fingers and hope for the best when placing a dog in a home, whether that’s with a foster or adopter. Fosters and adopters mean well, however they’re often ill-equipped to manage the needs of dogs arriving directly from the shelter. Animal rescues already spend so much of their budget on the rescue costs, only to have the dog returned to the rescue, or worse, returned to the shelter.

Decompression & Evaluation for Shelter Dogs

Rescue dog decompression

JRB K-9 is a quiet kennel boarding atmosphere where dogs will have the opportunity to decompress on their own timeline. During decompression, your dog will be evaluated for their unique personality traits. The dog's behavior will also be assessed to help animal rescues with the type of training the dog will need to find the perfect home. For shelter dogs to start their new life on the right paw, this is an imperative step to get them acclimated to home life.

In loving memory

Phyllis Patterson and Mac

The loss of Phyllis Patterson is greatly felt in both the Sylmar and dog rescue communities.

Many knew her as a dedicated activist in her neighborhood, and as a passionate advocate for rescue dogs. She tirelessly helped save the lives of so many shelter dogs with her efforts.

I knew her as a kind and generous woman, always ready and willing to lend a helping hand. She quickly became a dear friend that I had the honor of getting to know when I first moved to Sylmar.

We shared the same love of dogs and she was instrumental in supporting my vision for expanding my board and train business.

I owe her so much and I’m forever grateful to have known her. She, and her dog Mac, will always be deeply missed.

Jesse R. Booker

Best Friends rescue dog

R.I.P my Niko. I adopted Niko from Best Friends Animal Society in 2014. Niko passed away August 18, 2023 after a long fight with cancer. He is no longer suffering, however, it is me and my family that are suffering without him. I would say that he was the best dog in world, but that would be an understatement. He will be missed more than I can say.
